Meet Matthew Owen

During the course of Matthew’s thirteen years as a lawyer, he learned that exceptional communication skills and common sense allowed him to assess which cases required compassion and empathy and those that required a firm hand. This allowed him to get to the heart of the matter with both clients and opposing lawyers to solve even the most difficult cases.

Working for both plaintiffs and insurance companies, although more often for the latter, Matthew’s career took him through the full gamut of personal injury and insurance cases: motor vehicle accidents, tort and bodily injury, fatalities, fraud, property loss disputes, complex coverage disputes, accident benefits and catastrophic claims, municipal liability, construction litigation, and defamation.

Matthew spent most of his career at a highly regarded insurance litigation firm in Toronto, where he was often trusted to handle some of their more complex and sensitive files. He has mediated hundreds of files as a lawyer and settled thousands of cases. As a litigator, Matthew appeared before all levels of court in Ontario and several administrative tribunals, and worked on applications for leave to the Supreme Court.

During his career Matthew achieved excellent results for his clients by combining sharp analytical skills, a deep understanding of the law, and hard work. Matthew will bring the same approach as your mediator.
